7 Common Causes of Skin Discoloration

Skin discoloration refers to a change in your skin that deviates from the natural color of your skin. Skin discoloration spots can be any color, like red, pink, purple, tan, brown, black, or blue. Although there are several natural causes for skin discoloration El Paso, such as birthmarks, some discolored skin may result from an underlying medical disease that must be identified and treated.

Here are common causes of skin discoloration;

1.   Vitiligo

This disorder causes patches of your skin to start to lose their melanin or color. It occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or cease to function. Vitiligo can also affect the interior of your mouth and your hair. Although there is no cure for this condition, treatment may be helpful. This includes prescription drugs, light therapy, and surgery.

2.   Cancer treatment

Skin discoloration may occur following surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. It could also be a side effect of painkillers or an allergic response to the injection. Your skin may get darker, redder, or appear bruised. Once your therapy is over, these changes often disappear.

3.   Age spots

As you become older, these little black spots on your skin could start to show up. They may also be referred to as sunspots, solar lentigines, or liver spots. They appear on skin repeatedly exposed to the sun, such as the tops of your arms, hands, and feet. Even though they can happen in young people, they usually start after the age of 50.

4.   Sunburn

If you have ever spent too much time in the sun, you are aware of how uncomfortable a sunburn can be.  Sunburn can affect your scalp, lips, scalp, earlobes, or any other exposed skin. You may have a red or pink skin tone. Overexposure to the sun over time can speed up aging. These can appear as black blotches.

5.   Trauma

Skin damage from a burn, blister, or infection may cause brighter or darker patches than your typical skin tone. Usually, skin discoloration from blisters or burns improves without special treatment. Use specialist creams to get rid of dark spots more rapidly. Wear sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays, which might delay recovery.

6.   Tinea Versicolor

This fungal infection affects your skin’s pigmentation, or natural color, leading to light or dark patches. Along with skin damage, heat and humidity can promote the growth of the fungus and cause an infection. Both antibiotics and a compromised immune system are capable of doing this. The thorax, neck, and shoulders are often where the disease shows symptoms. But your face may also be impacted. Even though tinea versicolor cannot be spread, spending too much time in the sun may make it worse. The rehabilitation process might take months, even with counseling. And in hot, muggy weather, it could come back.

7.   Rosacea

This skin condition causes discoloration on your nose, cheeks, forehead, or chin. Sometimes, these spots can seem pink or red. The disorder is more common in women, people with lighter skin tones, and persons with a family history of rosacea.
