BBL: Matt Short Leading Runs Scorer in BBL|12 with 418 Runs

The time has come tonight! On Tuesday, December 13, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars will kick off the 12th season of the competition at Canberra’s Manuka Oval under the lights. There will be at least one match every day for the following 44 days, excluding Christmas Day.

It’s good news for fans, especially those in the west, who will be able to watch their team play seven home fixtures each after the previous two seasons’ calendar was severely damaged by the pandemic that KFC BBL|12 will feature 56 home-and-away fixtures with each club playing each other twice.

How do I view?

It’s in! In late September, it was confirmed that the men’s and women’s Big Bash events will both use the Decision Review System (DRS), which had been long anticipated.

The equipment will be used in every BBL|12 game. Each side is allowed one unsuccessful review every inning, and the batter or captain of the team that is fielding the ball has 15 seconds to request one. As is customary, if the outcome leads to “Umpire’s Call,” the reviewing team will retain its single unsuccessful review.

In the first game of the Weber WBBL|08 on October 13, Sydney Sixers captain Ellyse Perry requested the Big Bash’s first review, however she was unable to reverse the umpire’s decision to rule her out for being caught behind off her own bowling.

WBBL teams used the DRS with varied degrees of success throughout the competition, with Brisbane Heat opener Georgia Redmayne utilising the tool successfully for the first time to overturn a first-ball lbw judgement two nights later.

All BBL|12 games will start each inning with a four-over Powerplay, and between overs 11 and 20, the batting team may declare a two-over Power Surge. During these moments, a maximum of two fielders may be outside the field restriction circle.

What about the X-Factor subs and the Bash Boost point?

After two seasons, the X-Factor replacement and the Bash Boost point, which provided an extra point to the team ahead at the 10-over mark, were eliminated.

The tournament points system has been changed to once again award two points for a victory, one point for a tie or abandoned game, and zero points for a defeat. Teams will once again name a conventional playing XI, a 12th player, and substitute fielders.
